Perfume Lovers London | An Evening of Perfume & Music with Sebastian Wybrew

Technically speaking, perfume and music make for easy bed fellows. Both are a construction of notes and accords; however, let’s set that to one side. The beauty of considering perfume through the medium of music as demonstrated by Sebastian Wybrew at last month’s Perfume Lovers London meeting is in the immediate emotional response. Seeing perfume in this way is liberating. A perfume can once again be viewed as a whole and complete work rather than just a sum of its parts or fetishization of ingredients. It brings the act of experiencing a fragrance back to its raw, visceral level. 

Perfume Lovers London Chypre Glorious Chypre with Virginie Daniau

This past Thursday, 30th April, Fragrance Consultant Virginie Daniau lead the Perfume Lovers London group through a sampling of some of the benchmark Chypre fragrances of the 20th century. She began her talk by introducing the group to two key ingredients of Chypre fragrances, Labdanum and Oakmoss, before leading us through a sampling session that included such fragrances as Christian Dior’s Miss Dior and Gris Montaigne, Grossmith’s Golden Chypre, Ruth Mastenbroek, Atelier Cologne’s Trefle Pur, and Aromatics Elixir.

Perfume Lovers London: The Fragrance Library Comes to the UK

Today I emerged from my Thanksgiving induced coma to an inbox chuck full with Black Friday and Cyber Monday emails that sounded more like the coming of the apocalypse than the holiday season.  Although that may be debatable judging from some of the news footage I have seen of hungry mobs clawing at the door of their local Asda for that ever elusive £7.00 blender.  Aside from the delicious smorgasbord of delights I feasted on over the past few days, my weekend had a fantastic start at the Perfume Lovers London event which took place last Thursday to introduce us to The Library of Fragrance.

Yesterday evening I attended my first Perfume Lovers London event, Perfume and Well Being hosted by Lila das Gupta and presented by Tanya Moulding of The Perfume Mistress.  Aside from running fragrance workshops, talks, private parties and perfume events, Tanya also works as an aromatherapist and had an extensive amount of information to offer to us about a variety of our favorite perfume accords, their history and the various ways she uses them in her line of work.
